First Sign of Summer

We have 4 resilient bottlebrush bushes at the entrance of Soma Ranch. These 4 bushes have gone through the great flood of Harvey, the crazy freeze of Feb 2021 and a couple of droughts in between. They’ve been knocked down to the ground, frozen off, burned to a crisp yet they are resilient and keep coming back. Today is no exception, as I took a walk down to the gate, out of no where I found the first “BRUSH” of Summer. Yes! they have made it through another winter and are now here to delight our guests and participants as they drive and walk through the gates at Soma.

Bottlebrush plants (Callistemon spp.) get their name from the spikes of flowers that bloom at the ends of the stems, bearing a strong resemblance to a bottle brush. Most bottlebrush varieties bloom over a long summer season in shades of red or crimson.
